Dubuque Emergency Physicians is Iowa’s original and oldest board certified, residency trained Emergency Medicine group. DEP is very proud of its uninterrupted partnership with MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, a Magnet Hospital and major referral center for Eastern Iowa, Southern Wisconsin, and Northern Illinois. Dr. Tami Gudenkauf, D.O.
Dr. Gudenkauf has been with DEP since 2001. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadephia after attending medical school at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. She travels regulary on mission trips to volunteer her medical services and assist with building housing. Thus far she has been to Haiti, Guatamala, Honduras, Peurto Rico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. She also enjoys music, golfing, skiing, baking, and lawn work.
Dr. Mark McKeon, M.D.
Dr. McKeon attended medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo. He returned to his hometown of Dubuque and joined DEP in 2004. He serves as the medical director for several ambulance services in Iowa and Wisconsin and has been Dubuque County’s Medical Examiner since 2007. Dr. McKeon was the first CONTOMS-certified Tactical Medicine Medical Director in Iowa and has his Fire Fighter 1 with Hazmat certification. He enjoys judo, playing piano, hunting, taxidermy, and traveling with his family. He has visited more than a dozen countries and is also a published author.
Dr. Kevin Zettek, D.O
Dr. Zettek graduated from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa and was the chief Emergency Medicine resident at Genesys in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He has been with DEP since 2014. Dr. Zettek has a passion for teaching. He has previous experience training residents in Michigan, currently gives the Pediatric CME lectures at DEP department meetings, and continues to mentor medical students and nurse practitioner students. “I came to Dubuque to be closer to family and I like the comradery shared amongst the partners of DEP.” Kevin golfs, plays the saxophone, and is a fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
Dr. Nicholas Edwards, M.D.
Dr. Edwards is a native of Dubuque and was happy to return to the area to raise his family. He graduated from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and finished his Emergency Medicine residency at UIHC. He has been a member of Mercy’s Trauma Committee since joining DEP in 2017 and enjoys EMS education. “Because of my partners and the nurses I work with, I genuinely enjoy coming to work every day”. Nick prefers to spend his free time with his wife, two boys, and their dog. His hobbies include running, hiking, taking in a Green Bay Packers game (he is a stockholder), and attending metal concerts, especially Metallica.
Dr. Fritz Liaboe, D.O.
Dr. Liaboe grew up in Dubuque and returned to raise his family here. He joined DEP in July 2019 after attending medical school at The University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa and completing his Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Dr. Liaboe has an interest in tactical medicine and has completed the tactical emergency medicine course at UICOMP. He is an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoys getting outdoors to road bike, golf, water ski, snowboard, and take stroller walks with his son.
Dr. Jenni Sullivan
Dr. Sullivan earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Clarke University here in Dubuque. She is board certified as both a Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner. She is also an ACLS instructor. She is honored to be the first APP to join the group, and has been with DEP since 2025. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, reading mystery/thriller novels, and traveling. Jenni and her husband recently welcomed their first baby girl. A new chapter that has brought even greater appreciation for the importance of family and compassionate healthcare.

Dr. Sean Wetjen, M.D.
Dr. Wetjen was born and raised in Dubuque and was thrilled to return home to practice Emergency Medicine in the very hospital where he was born. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Before medicine, he worked for years as a paramedic, including service with Ft. Belvoir EMS for the U.S. Department of Defense, and he continues to serve as a Paramedic Specialist with Paramount Ambulance Service. He joined DEP as a partner in 2023 and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Sean has a passion for wilderness, expedition, and pre-hospital medicine, and has volunteered on medical missions around the world, including Guatemala, Cambodia, Sudan, and the Philippines. In his free time he enjoys international travel and playing, coaching, refereeing, and watching soccer. He lives with his wife Christine, daughter Reece, and dog Stella.
